Your Body is your best guide

September, 22 2021

Psychological scientists have proven that the subconscious is for us the hidden part of an iceberg.

We think we control our life, but actually this our subconscious is the one who controls 90% of our reactions. Our emotions are the reflection of our subconscious. It has been proven recently that the emotions were not the origin of our body's reactions but that our body first react via fascia’s contractions and then, the brain will induce emotions based on those contractions.

Our body thus, is the most complex engine in the world to warn us when something is wrong.

Unfortunately, there is a big issue: over the times, we learnt how to no longer listen our body. To no longer listen our physical sensations. We are bombarded by informations and the ones from our body are submerged by the flow.

So, what our body is doing in this case? It shouts louder and louder, to get our attention and until we are listening.

Let's relearn how to listen to our body

In my case, it turned out that my stomach aches were just the result of non-handled emotions. It was as if my body was taking all the stress that I was not able to handle and spitting it out as aching when it was no longer bearable. For someone else, such a situation may have turned out as a back ache or headache ...

The body knows out to communicate so let's relearn how to listen. It will guide us. The illness has a meaning ...

The biological decoding is not very well known, however a very interesting domain.

By being vigilant of your body changes, you will be surprised to discover how helpful it can be to guide you.

To elaborate on my explanation, here is a funny anecdote:

Few years ago, I was facing an uncomfortable situation at work. I was more and more uncomfortable in my position. My values were trampled upon a bit more every day. I started to feel some pain in my left ankle, I just thought that it was due to the sport I was practicing. Few days later, I started to feel some pain in my left knee. I was started to be a bit more vigilant but it was most probably due to sport. Then, it was my left shoulder turn and one morning, I wake up with a little kink in my neck ... on the left side of course. At last, I listen to my body and got an appointment with my favorite therapist. We did laugh when I explain to her the situation and when she saw me walking. After the session, I did not feel any pain anywhere and we did work on my issues at work.

A pain somewhere ? A symptom of the tension in your consciousness, of a not-properly-handled emotion.

A pain is a symptom and not the result of a problem. When you change your perspective and you try to understand what the illness is meaning, then, you can start to work on the origin or at least to release what prevent your smooth responsiveness.

When a pain become recurrent, usually, at this point, we become aware that we have a problem. Most people will take a pill to get rid of the pain and ignore the pain.

This is what I did at the time, I ignore the pain. We all have a huge capacity to ignore the things that require introspection or at least to face them.

And, in all domains, of course, otherwise where will be the fun?

In any domain, if your situation has less and less appeal, day after day, you drag your leg in but you stay (in this situation), without any enthusiasm, you wither. little by little ... until the day where it becomes unbearable. If you don't do anything, there is no reason for the situation to change, if you do not decide that it is enough, if you do not have the click, you will continue to suffer and one day, it will be too much.

The more you wait to take into account a tension, a discomfort, a pain, the more it will intensify until it becomes unbearable.

Of course, it is not always easy to understand what is hidden behind et by the way, is it important? For some people, it is, it helps them to understand what they have to change. For others, the most important is elsewhere, it is to get better.

Knowing what to change, sometimes, is not enough. Knowing what to do and actually doing it, is two different things. Why? because if you decide to do something and that your subconscious want to do something else, you will end up with an inner conflict and you will need to use your willpower. Unfortunately, after a while, this willpower runs out of steam. Thus, the need to work on the subconscious level to maximize every chances.

Depending on your personality, your open-mindedness, your operating mode, the approach that you will choose will be different from someone else.

These days, there is a vast number of healing technics. I will talk and detail some of them in the following articles. Each technic has a different approach. Each technic will work at a different level. The process is the same whatever is the domain.

Some interesting sayings

Often, popular sayings are a good indicator of the hidden problematic behind a symptom.

  • I have my back full of it! Sometimes, even often, a person suffering of back issues has it full of it.

  • A blocked nose? There is something which smell badly, a situation, a person?

  • An ear infection, an otitis? What don't you want to hear?

  • A sore throat? What are you not saying?

  • A knee pain? To which situation you don't want to bend.

Those are only examples, but often, the words that we use are tell-tale. Ask a friend your language habits. You will be surprised how the words we are using are reflecting our pains and discomforts.

Do not wait to be exhausted or to develop a chronic pain to take action!

The more you wait to react, the more the problematic can take root and the more it can be difficult to dislodge. I did say "can".

Indeed, I said above that our subconscious controls 90% of our reactions. It is therefore via the subconscious that we need to act. And if you aim accurately and that there is only one origin, the problem can go away very quickly, even if it exists since a long time.

I did notice in my practice that phobia and allergies present since a very long time can disappear in one, two or three sessions.

The willpower had nothing to do with a recurrent problem's solution, otherwise you will have found it already ... the solution!

The solution is neither outside, because if you are waiting from the outside a solution to your problem, then you will most probably wait a while.

Our body is therefore our compass to guide us through Life. If we know how to listen, it is a wonderful tool. Via our body, our subconscious is talking.

One of our society problems is that not only did we learn how to ignore our body's reactions, but we also learn how to silence it via pills that will make the symptoms disappear or the pains. I am not saying to not take any pills, but rather that you need to take them consciously.

If we look for the origin of an ill-being, a pain or an uncomfortable emotion, nothing prevents us to relieve this ill-being, this pain or this emotion with a pill but be aware that this pill is like a crutch. It will relieve from the pain, even make it disappear entirely, but the problem's origin will not be handled.

There are good chances that your body will talk to you again, more and more insistently.

So, why not taking the best possible odds to definitively get rid of a recurrent problematic and avoid it more intense reoccurrence?

Taking care of yourself is preserving your health!

When you start to care about your body's reactions and that you no longer consider it as a robot that must obey and function optimally, without being vigilant on the fuel you put in, either the food, the emotions, the environment, it becomes our best ally.

This is what happened to me. I know today that when my body is yelling, it means something is at odds.

Obviously, I am like any next person, I don't always hear it at the first shout, but I am much more vigilant than 20 years ago.

It does not mean I don't have any physical worries as anyone, but once the awareness is there, usually, this is just a question of time so that my body will find back its optimal functioning.

The body approach

What I just explain is what I call the body approach. The entry point to work in-depth and release yourself is the physical symptoms, the aching and any other discomforts that you may feel physically.

Those issues are often the reflection of an unconscious problem. Even if someone break his leg, there is a reason behind, other than he walk in a hole.

This approach is recommended for the ones that have difficulties to describe their emotional issues. Those that often say: I am not feeling well, I don't know what the problem is ... Often, for those, it is way easier to describe their physical symptoms than their emotions or the situations they have difficulties to handle emotionally.

Obviously, the body can lose its balance for many other reasons, as for example, diet. If you eat poorly, you take the risk to unbalance your body. But why are you eating poorly? The subconscious has many ways to make itself heard and behind each symptom, there is a behavior that leads toward this symptom et behind this toxic behavior, there is a blockage.

The body approach means that the work basis whatever the applied therapy will be the physical symptoms.

Experiences/Exercises

Exercise: List your physical symptoms with your own words

I propose here a very simple exercise. If you take the time to do it, it will be your basis for the next phases, as with the assessment. Use your notebook.

  1. List your discomforts and physical pains. Go over your entire body from head to toe.

  2. Do not forget the internal symptoms - headaches, digestive issues, back pain ...

  3. Try to find a link between those symptoms by looking at the books I recommend below.

  4. Identify a problematic: you can ask for help.

  5. Think about your chiropractor: if your chiropractor works always on the same area, this is an indication.

When you will work on a given problematic in-depth, you can review your list.

Exercise Information:

When to use it? When you don't know how to start.

Frequency: Every month. If you are not able to differentiate recurrent issues from others.

Duration: 5 minutes

Difficulty: Easy

Efficiency: This is a good starting point especially for those who have a tendency to wait for the problems to go away by itself.

My opinion: I found this tool very interesting and it is beneficial to do it on regular basis as prevention and to maintain your health.

Experience: The Body Scan

This meditation is the first that you learn in the mindfulness training. It is recommended to reconnect with your body.

My favorite one is John Kabat-Zinn: Body Scan but you can find many others on the Internet.

Add this meditation in your agenda during the week. Then review your list.

Note that I say "add in your agenda" and not just "listen to this meditation daily". If you plan to do it when you have time, you will not do it more than once or twice, but if you add it to your daily agenda, you will take the time.

By the way, I will talk about the mindfulness training in more details in another article.

Experience's information:

When to use it? Use this meditation when you have the feeling to lose ground on your daily activities, it will allow you to anchor yourself and be present.

Frequency: I recommend to do this meditation daily during one week and then at your own frequency, the one that fit your needs.

Duration: 35 minutes

Difficulty: Easy even if you fall asleep.

Efficiency: Very efficient to decrease the tension and get back to the present.

My opinion: I love this meditation because afterwards you are relaxed, as if all your worries are back to their right place.

To go forward, I recommend the following books:
